Plan Your Next 3 Months of Content Without the Overwhelm
Do you have your content calendar ready for the next three months? If not, don’t worry! Whether you’re headed into Quarter 4quarter four or you’re planning ahead for any season, looking at your blog through a 90-day lens can make content planning feel manageable instead of overwhelming.
In this post, I’ll walk you through a simple system for planning 3 months of content that keeps you consistent, gives you clarity, and (most importantly) leaves room for flexibility.
How to Plan Your Next 3 Months of Content Without the Overwhelm
Step 1: Start with Your Calendar and Your Goals
Before you start filling in blog post ideas, look at your personal calendar for the next 90 days. Be realistic about your capacity. If you only have a few hours a week to blog, it’s better to commit to one post a week than set an unrealistic goal that will leave you frustrated.
Next, set one to three clear goals for your blog. These could be things like growing your traffic, building your email list, updating older posts, or prepping content for a launch. Whatever your goals are, make sure they fit your season of life and the time you actually have available.
Step 2: Mix Seasonal and Evergreen Content
The best content strategy includes both seasonal and evergreen posts.
Seasonal content is tied to specific times of year, like holiday recipes, back-to-school hacks, or summer bucket lists. The key here is to publish seasonal posts early, so they have time to gain traction on Google and social media.
Evergreen content is content that’s always relevant, like tutorials, lifestyle tips, encouragement, or recipes that can be enjoyed year-round. These posts keep traffic flowing to your blog no matter the season.
Balancing both ensures you’re attracting readers year-round while also riding the wave of seasonal search trends.
Step 3: Pick Priority Topics
Once your goals are clear, brainstorm blog post ideas that support them.
If your goal is traffic growth, focus on SEO-friendly posts that target what your audience is already searching for.
If your goal is relationship-building, consider storytelling posts, behind-the-scenes updates, or freebie content to connect with readers on a deeper level. If your goal is revenue, prioritize affiliate content, sponsored posts, or blog posts that support your products or services.
Remember: not every post has to hit all three areas (traffic, relationships, revenue). The magic is in creating variety and balance across your content calendar.
Step 4: Leave Margin in Your Calendar
Here’s where a lot of bloggers trip up: overstuffing their calendar. It’s easy to start with big ambitions, but when life happens, you can quickly feel behind and lose motivation.
Instead, leave a margin. Build in white space so you have room to pivot, rest, and stay consistent. Aim for a sustainable posting schedule, whether that’s one post a week, every other week, or something in between.
Batching your content creation can also help you get ahead and create that buffer.
Step 5: Don’t Forget Promotion
Publishing your blog post is only half the job. You also need a plan to promote it. At the very least, share your new post with your email list (if you don’t have one yet, we highly recommend signing up with Kit!).
Beyond email, repurpose your post for social media. Create Pinterest pins, share snippets on Instagram or Facebook, make a short video or reel, or use it as part of a monthly newsletter.
