Meet Corrie Morris of My Friend Meg
Corrie Morris started MyFriendMegBlog to create a community for active moms and kids. The learning curve in motherhood is steep and it feels crazy for moms to reinvent the wheel every time their family or children embark on a new activity. MyFriendMeg provides the practical advice and encouragement we all need in a mom friend during this busy season of life!
How Corrie Morris Got Started with Her Motherhood Blog
Corrie Morris’s journey with her motherhood blog began over a decade ago when she was pregnant with her first child, after a cross-country move for her husband’s job. The move left her far from family and friends, and now dealing with a high-risk pregnancy, she turned to blogs for support and practical advice. From lists of activities to do while on bed rest to tips on preparing homemade baby food, the personal, real-life experiences she got from blogs gave Corrie guidance and reassurance during an isolating time.
It wasn’t until she had her third child and gained more confidence in her own parenting experience that she decided to give back to other moms. She felt she’d hit her stride in motherhood, and she wanted to help others the way those early bloggers helped her.
Now, Corrie’s motherhood blog focuses on sharing practical advice to simplify parenting. From what to pack for a t-ball practice to planning school class parties, her content aims to save moms time and stress – because motherhood is too hard, she says, and parenting is too important not to help each other any way we can.
Balancing Blogging and Motherhood
Corrie says it’s important to choose a blog niche that aligns with your daily life and passions. “If it’s not something you live and breathe every day, it will be hard to sustain,” she explained.
For her, a motherhood blog about her active family life feels natural because it mirrors her experiences and the conversations she has daily.
By paying attention to the questions and challenges faced by those around her, Corrie finds inspiration for her content. Whether it’s a question from a fellow soccer mom about post-game snacks or her own curiosity about parenting hacks, these real-life moments spark ideas for blog posts that resonate with her audience.
So whatever your niche – whether it’s home organization, recipes, or home decor – connecting with your audience’s everyday challenges is key to creating meaningful, helpful content.
Growing Her Motherhood Blog
When Corrie Morris first created her motherhood blog, she quickly realized that building a successful blog would require more than just writing great content. After completing the Ultimate Blog Bootcamp, she found herself relying on the supportive community it provided to navigate early challenges.
Corrie reflects, “It took me a bit longer to get through the Bootcamp than maybe others, but the feedback and resources were invaluable.” She says the support from her instructors and peers played a key role in her progress, particularly when she struggled with tasks like setting up Google Analytics. The group referred her to expert Grayson Bell and other resources, and she credits this with helping her overcome technical hurdles. This allowed her to tap into experts in areas like SEO coaching and technical setup – which helped her to focus on the aspects of blogging she enjoyed most.
Corrie’s Strategy Shift: Three Focus Areas
Corrie’s initial efforts after launching her motherhood blog didn’t give her the traffic she expected right away. Despite her hard work on photography and content creation, she realized that just publishing posts wasn’t enough to attract a loyal audience. That’s when she decided to get strategic.
Early in her journey, Corrie gave herself a six-month to one-year commitment to focus on three specific areas:
Consistent, SEO-Optimized Blog Posts: She committed to publishing high-quality, user-focused blog posts weekly, missing only one week in the entire year.
Pinterest Strategy: Corrie used Tailwind to pin content regularly, recognizing Pinterest as a valuable traffic source for her niche.
Weekly Emails: She prioritized nurturing her growing email list with helpful and relevant content.
Corrie looked at what she could control, and focusing on these three areas really moved the needle for her. Her motherhood blog was recently accepted into the Grow by Mediavine Journey Program, a goal she had been working toward for some time. She attributes this achievement to her commitment to “checking the boxes every week” on those key focus areas.
The Future of Corrie Morris’s Motherhood Blog
Looking ahead, Corrie plans to continue refining her Pinterest strategy while staying focused on her core goals. She offers this advice to new bloggers: “Focus on the basics. There are so many flashy tools and strategies out there, but at the end of the day, it’s about creating great content, connecting with your audience, and staying consistent.”
