What We Would Tell Ourselves As Beginner Bloggers
SHOW NOTES: Episode 90
Today, we are sharing with you the things that we would go back and tell ourselves as beginner bloggers. Although it’s important to not dwell on the past and focus on the future in our blogs, we want to share these things with you early in your blogging journey in hopes that it will help you! We want this to encourage you that we all start out as beginners.
So, here are the things we would tell ourselves as beginner bloggers:
1.It’s much easier to look back and think what you should have done. Own your journey.
Don’t do that. Don’t beat yourself up about what you “should have” done. This journey is your own. Embrace it. Own it. You will learn lessons along the way. That is all a part of the blogging journey. No two blogs are the same.
2. Understand and be realistic about the amount of time and energy and work that goes into creating a blog that’s going to be successful.
It’s important to know that it will come in its own time. From the beginning, treat yourself like you’re talking to the audience that you want to talk to. Spend your time on the things that twill move the needle forward in the direction to help the people that you’re wanting to help. Focus on that consistency. It all takes time and you’re not doing anything wrong, it just takes time. Don’t give up before you get to that point where you start to see success.
3. It’s more important to focus on growing your email list than your social media following.
You don’t own your social media following but your email list is yours. No one can take that list from you. Nurture it. Focus on your email list more than your social media. Social media can be a great addition but that email list is more important. Your email list are your biggest supporters.
4. Figure out your confidence from the beginning.
It’s easy to minimize what you’re doing. A lot of people will “quietly” blog instead of sharing with others that they are blogging. Be proud of what you’re doing. Be proud of what you have to offer. Don’t try to be somebody else. Be who you are and have confidence in that.
5. Anticipate growth being part of the process.
When you first start your blog, it isn’t going to look the same further down the road. Be willing to pivot.
6. Make intentional decisions without being afraid of making mistakes.
Making mistakes is something that we are afraid of and it keeps us in analysis paralysis often but we can learn from those mistakes. There are decisions that you are going to have to make in your blogging business and be okay with making those decisions.
7. Go ahead and set habits in place now that you’re working towards that are going to make this business successful.
Your dream is valid. Blogging is an actual career. Give yourself permission from day one to carve out time and create consistency so that you can work your blog like ab business from day 1.
8. Create before you consume.
It’s so easy to hop on social media and see what everyone else is doing and how they are blogging about a certain topic but make sure that you are first creating content before you consume content. A lot of times when we consume and then create, we end up not creating at all. Know that you have what it takes to create content that others want to consume and then create that content!
9. Consider yourself a business from the beginning.
It doesn’t matter if you have 1 blog post or 100 blog posts, take yourself seriously and treat your blog like a business from day 1.
10. Know that there is a cost to getting started.
It’s a minimal cost to get started compared to other businesses that you can start but there is a cost. There’s a lot more to blogging than just sitting down and writing. We teach all of this in the Ultimate Blog Bootcamp!
So, we hope this helped you as a beginner blogger or maybe someone who is thinking about starting a blog and hasn’t yet. Blogging can truly be a career for you but it does take work. We love that we chose blogging and helping others start their blogs as our careers and we want to see you be successful too!
