Sharing is caring!

If you’ve been wondering why your email list isn’t growing – or feeling stuck because your freebie just isn’t converting – you’re not alone.

We hear this all the time from both beginner and experienced bloggers: “I created a lead magnet, added a signup form to my site… but no one’s joining my email list!” Sound familiar?

Here’s the good news: you don’t need to overhaul your blog or reinvent the wheel. This episode of the Ultimate Blog Podcast is the second part of our email series where we share 3 easy and actionable ways to get more email signups this month – even if your current freebie isn’t perfect (or you don’t have one at all!).

And if you haven’t heard Part 1 of our email series, check out Episode 188: What to Send Your Email List When You’re Just Starting Your Blog!

3 Easy Ways to Get More Email Signups

1. Make It About Connection

Yes, freebies can work, but they aren’t the magic solution on their own. The truth is, people want to connect with real people. If your lead magnet isn’t quite clicking, it might not be what your audience truly wants.

Instead of stressing over creating the perfect download, just start showing up and offering connection.

Try something like:

  • “Want a peek behind the scenes of my blog? I send a weekly email with real-life updates and lessons learned.”
  • “Every Friday I share a quick tip I’ve learned while growing my blog. Want in?”

Your voice is the value. Give people a reason to feel personally connected, and they’ll sign up because they want more of that.

2. Be Strategic About Where Your Signup Forms Go

You might have a great offer, but if no one sees it, it won’t convert.

Here are a few places to put your email signup forms:

  • Above the fold on your homepage, so people see it right away without scrolling
  • Your top-performing blog posts
  • At the end of every blog post
  • Your About page
  • Your sidebar to catch desktop readers

Want to take it a step further to get more email signups? Try these tools we love:

  • Grow plugin by Mediavine. It adds a “spotlight subscribe” form that appears while scrolling and disappears naturally.
  • Hubbub by NerdPress. It lets readers request blog posts by email, which automatically adds them to your list.

3. Talk About It More Often and In More Places

People can’t sign up if they don’t know your email list exists. Don’t just post your opt-in once and forget it. Make it part of your regular routine to talk about your list and how people can join.

Here are a few easy ways to do that:

  • Instagram Stories: Share about your list weekly and include a swipe-up or link sticker.
  • Link in bio: Make sure your freebie or opt-in is front and center.
  • Pinterest: Create fresh pins that link directly to your signup page.
  • Guest spots: Mention your freebie on podcasts, Lives, or interviews.
  • In your blog content: Link to your signup naturally within your posts, not just in forms.
  • Everyday convos: If someone is loving your content, tell them how to keep in touch!

Talking about your email list doesn’t have to feel salesy. If your emails offer value, tips, or behind-the-scenes insights, you should be telling people about them. You’re helping them.
