Why you need to start a blog
SHOW NOTES: Episode 36
If you are tuning in to this episode, it’s likely that you have considered starting a blog. We want to encourage you today on the reasons we feel like starting a blog may be the next best step for you.
The reasons we think you need to start a blog:
1. If you have a blog, you own your content.
If you are sharing on social media, they really own the rights to that content and can do as they please with your content. You give some sort of ownership to them when you post. Whereas with a blog, you have ownership of that content
2. Your content lives forever.
People can find content that you have created years ago when they search into Google (when you do keyword research and SEO — we teach this in the bootcamp!). When you compare that to social media where you make a post and pretty soon after you make it, people aren’t seeing that post any longer. We do think social media is great and it can be a great resource to use alongside your blog but it shouldn’t replace your blog.
3. You can reach people that are not even on social media.
Some people are truly not on social media! I know it feels like everyone is these days but there are lots of people who choose not to be on social media or who leave social media for various reasons. These people still deserve to hear what you have to say! You can be a resource to these people.
4. You can connect with people in a deeper way.
When you set up your blog, you share a little bit about who you are and why you’re passionate about the niche that you have chosen for your blog. A lot of people who find your blog want the solutions that you have and want to connect with you because they may have encountered similar situations. People are going to come back week after week and have that deeper connection with you where they feel like they truly know you.
5. You can grow your email list.
Those relationships that you can build through your email list are deep connections and avid readers of your blog typically. You can dive deep into a subject with your email list / blog. If something ever happened to social media, you would still have your email list and blog.
6. It allows you to be a trusted resource for people.
When you niche down in your blog (something we teach in the Ultimate Blog Bootcamp), you help people and add value to their lives and you start being known as a resource. They will come to your blog to find out more about a particular topic.
7. You have a lot more control with your content.
Social media has terms and conditions and they have a lot more control over the content you create and how you can create an income for yourself. It’s less likely that someone will come shut down your blog (it can happen but less likely — listen to our episodes linked below). On social media, your account may be shut down depending on their terms and conditions.
8. You can make money with your blog.
There are many different avenues to make income with your blog. There is ad revenue, affiliate sales, products, courses, monetizing your podcast. There are a number of ways to make money blogging. Speaking of which, when you partner with a brand, that post lives forever. Think about how you can continually serve a brand month after month, rather than just one post and it’s done. That is one way you can be more attractive to a brand as well.
Having a blog gives you a solid home base for your business. We are so glad that we took the leap of faith to start a blog and we love helping others with theirs.
