Top 5 mistakes that bloggers make
SHOW NOTES: Episode 5
What are the top 5 mistakes that bloggers make? While there are more than just 5 mistakes that bloggers make, these 5 are the ones we see a lot of bloggers making.
Spending more time on social media than on your own blog
Spending a lot of time on social media is something that I think we are all guilty of and definitely one of the mistakes that bloggers can make. Social media is a great thing for helping us network with others but it can’t be where you are spending most of your time. Social media content requires you to stay constantly active while your blog is always working for you. Honestly, you could always lose your social media account but your blog will be there. Be sure you are spending your time wisely.
Not taking themselves seriously from the start
It’s so important to take yourself seriously and invest in yourself. When deciding to start a blog, take a look at your mindset. Why are you doing this? What are your goals? Which platform is going to help you grow? You may have people in your life who don’t understand why you have a blog or what you’re doing. That is ok. Take this seriously and you can still continue to grow a blog without everybody else understanding.
Not growing your email list
This is one of the most important aspects of your business. When people sign up for your email list, they are saying that they want to stay connected with and learn from you. Growing your email list is important because like we mentioned in mistake number one, you could always lose your social media account. You want to be sure that you have a way to connect with your audience in the event that happened and an email list is a great way to connect.
Comparing yourself to other bloggers
This is a tough one and so easy to do. You look around and see people who started at the same time as you or after you and you start comparing. Remember you are on your own journey. Just because something is working for another blogger, doesn’t mean it is what you should be doing as well. Starting a blog is all about creating your own path and finding out what brings you joy. Blogging is a marathon, not a sprint. Don’t compare yourself and don’t allow yourself to give up.
Not choosing a topic that is relevant to others
Blogging is about helping others and adding value to their lives. You want make sure that even if you are sharing something personal on your blog that it also focuses on how your specific experience can help someone else. Be sure when you are thinking about what topic you want to share that you think about something that can help someone else too.
