The Power of Digital Products in Your Blogging Business with Tammy Overhoff
Today, we’re excited to welcome our guest, Tammy Overhoff! Tammy Overhoff is the owner and author of the successful blog Organize Yourself Skinny. She built her blog from a hobby in 2011 to a career that allowed her to leave her full time job and spend more time with her kids.
Tammy shares how her blog has evolved over the years from selling eBooks to eventually finding her niche in meal prep, weight loss, and healthy habits. She’s gone through different focuses in her business that allowed her to maintain a steady income, like going from solely relying on ad revenue to developing and selling digital products like meal plans and eBooks. She also shares how she’s overcome setbacks as the blogging landscape changed, like major SEO and algorithm updates.
Tammy emphasizes the importance of community-building, using email lists, and creating digital products as key strategies that helped her grow and sustain her blog. She highlights how essential it is to listen to your audience, adapt your offerings, and keep learning new skills, like Facebook ads, to stay successful in the blogging world.
Tammy shares key advice for bloggers:
Listen to your community: Tammy explains how important it is to talk to your audience so you can understand what they need from you. As you create content and build your email list, Tammy says to focus on identifying the specific problems your audience faces and the goals they want to achieve. Your digital products should be niche and directly aligned with solving these problems – such as helping busy moms plan weekly dinners.
Don’t be afraid to try something new: Tammy encourages bloggers to pivot and change things up if what they’re doing isn’t working. She maintains that it’s smart to try something out for a while to get data on how it’s working to compare, but then try a new method out to see if that will be more successful.
Build your email list: This is the number one goal as soon as you start your business, according to Tammy. She believes everything you do should lead into building your email list because that will be your biggest asset for selling digital products. Your email list will allow you to automate communication, directly hear from your audience, and gather data on what emails and messages got readers to purchase from you.
Don’t just focus on SEO: Algorithms change all the time. Instead of “putting all your eggs in the SEO basket,” Tammy recommends focusing on creating products that serve your audience better. While following best SEO practices is important, she encourages business owners to think beyond only what’s best for SEO.
