Should You Start a Podcast or Blog First?
SHOW NOTES: Episode 101
Should you start a podcast or blog first?
It’s Amy here and I have a solo coming at you. I am giving you the benefits of both blogging and podcasting and then sharing (as both a blogger and a podcaster) whether I feel a blog or a podcast should come first.
I want to first explain how both platforms can complement each other, which allows you as the creator to connect with your audience in different ways.
Blogs and podcasts are more than just platforms for sharing content. They provide a behind-the-scenes view, which allows your audience to build trust with you. Both nurture your audience and community and allow others to connect with you on a deeper level. They both offer opportunities to generate leads, earn revenue through affiliate sales and brand sponsorships, and market yourself passively. Once your content is crated, it remains there for anyone searching it, whether that is through search engines like Google or podcast apps like Apple Podcasts.
The Benefits of Starting a Blog
- The ability to build search engine optimization (SEO) by creating quality content that attracts your audience.
- This helps you get in front of more people and connect with them!
- Blogs allow you to immediately start collecting email subscribers.
- This is valuable for launching products or services. Having an email list truly allows for a more personal connection with your audience.
- A blog serves as a home base.
- This provides a place for your show notes when you launch your podcast, email sign-ups, and a visual representation of your brand. It allows for a space for collaborations, sponsorships, and working with affiliates.
The Benefits of Launching a Podcast
- Allows you to easily batch your work and release consistent content
- This helps you become known as an expert in your niche. People will start to recognize you as a go-to source for information.
- Gives you the opportunity to connect with your audience on a more personal level
- This increases brand awareness and helps build your community!
As both a blogger and podcaster, I love them both but overall, I recommend starting with a blog first as a home base.
A blog or website is essential for housing your show notes and providing a place for people to connect with your content. It allows you to offer backlinks to your guests, further promoting their content.
The beauty of doing both a podcast and a blog is that they can support and complement each other. By having both, you can reach and serve more people.
