Preparing for the Summer Slump in Blogging
SHOW NOTES: Episode 71
Today, we are talking all about the summer slump and how to navigate through those summer months when traffic to your site slows down.
We want to assure you that it is completely normal for a summer slump to happen and let you know what to expect so you are prepared for it.
On today’s episode, we dive into a few reasons why a summer slump can happen. This can be the fact that there may be less traffic to your website due to people being busy with more outdoor activities. Maybe some people aren’t checking their phones as often in the summer. There may be less ad revenue because advertisers are spending less money in the summer. You might even be spending less time working on your blog in the summer because of your own summer activities.
We chat about one of the benefits of blogging is that you are able to show up more in your life and your business can take a backseat as long as you have taken time to focus on search engine optimization (SEO) and keyword research to continually drive traffic to your site. We share more about some things you can be doing to prepare yourself for the summer slump which include preparing for summer expenses, utilizing web stories and creating your content ahead of time.
There are some benefits to the summer slump which include:
- The ability to take some time off from blogging
- The ability to take some time to look into the traffic flow of your website
- Having time to work on other things you may not always have time for during the busier months
- Making updates to your website
- Taking the time to learn a new skill
- Working on your email list welcome sequences
- Creating a freebie or lead magnet
- Getting ahead on your fall and winter content
Our goal today is to make you feel like you can embrace the summer slump and know this is a normal part of business that you can plan for. We appreciate you tuning in each and every week and we hope that we have helped you take some of the fear out of what’s to come here in the summer so you can enjoy your sunshine days a little bit more.
