Diversifying your blog business
SHOW NOTES: Episode 46
Have you thought about diversifying your blog business but aren’t sure where to begin? Well, today’s episode is for you!
First and foremost, before we get into diversifying your blog business, let’s chat about taking your blog seriously. You should treat your blog as a business and take yourself seriously when starting it. This is ultimately the most important thing before you even think about anything else. Once you get into the mindset of treating this as a business, let’s think about diversifying it.
Diversification is important. What this means is that you are creating income streams from multiple sources that aren’t dependent on each other. When you have multiple income streams coming in and multiple ways that you are doing things, you get to show up in different spaces and help different people. It’s important to not “put all of your eggs in one basket”. For example, if you have a blog that you are getting ad revenue from and Instagram where you are doing sponsored posts, if one of those were to stop, you wouldn’t lose all of your income at once.
Here are some examples of ways that you can diversify your blog business:
Courses
Think about your niche and how you can turn that into a course. Now, this doesn’t have to be huge course or big and robust. This can be an evergreen, mini course that helps others.
Products
Products are a great way to diversify your income. You can self-publish a cookbook or book (check out our episode with Chelsea Cole on this), create journals, apparel, or cooking products. The possibilities are endless!
Podcast
You could reach so many more people with having both a blog and a podcast. You can have a podcast alongside your blog. Check out our episode with Hannah Clark talking more about this.
Coaching
Think about your niche. How could you add 1:1 or group coaching to help others? Check out our episode with Sarah Hagstrom talking more about how she grew her coaching business (and listen in as she talks about being more intentional).
Memberships
You can create a monthly membership for others to join which will bring in an income as well.
Affiliate sales and brand work
There is a lot of money to be made in this but we also want you to build your wealth on things you’ve created too. While affiliate sales and brand work is great, you want to make sure you’re doing other things to build your income as well.
Now that we’ve talked about diversifying your blog business, let’s chat more about goal setting.
Setting goals is so important as a blogger. Be intentional, set goals and then check the progress so that you know if what you are doing is successful. Don’t be afraid to pivot and change and integrate blogging into your life (more about that here). Constantly evaluate and think “How would I like to show up? How can I serve?” And figure out what is working for you!
