SHOW NOTES: Episode 106

If you’re ready to start your blogging business but you are apprehensive about the price that you will have to pay for each thing you need, this episode is for you! We are breaking down the necessary assets and expenses that you will need in today’s episode so that you can confidently budget for you blog for 2024! 

When it comes to starting a business, blogging is a low cost of entry overall. Some things that you will need when first getting started are:

1. A computer

We highly recommend that you have a computer when starting your blog. You don’t have to buy a brand new one so if you already have one, you can use that one. If you don’t, this will be an expense that you will need to add in!

2. A phone, or camera

You are going to need photos for your blog. Most phones nowadays have great photo capabilities so if you already own a smartphone, this will be an expense that you don’t have to add in right away. You may choose to use a camera instead as well.

3. Props or accessories (depending on your niche)

You may want to consider a ring light. Other props will depend on your niche!

4. Domain name

This is your address on the internet. The cost for this varies a bit.

5. Hosting

This is where your blog will be stored. We highly recommend Big Scoots for hosting. 

6. Theme for your website

This is a worthwhile investment. You are going to want a theme that is optimized for your blog.

7. Plugins

There are a lot of free plugins but we do recommend some paid ones as well that will help your blog be optimal.

8. LLC

We recommend filing for an LLC when starting your blogging business. You will need to check your state for specific details on filing an LLC and you can also speak with an attorney for legal advice on that as well.

9. Consider a trademark.

Speak with an attorney (we have some listed below that we spoke with on the podcast) about trademarking your blog.

10. Privacy policy & Terms and Conditions

You will need a terms and conditions and privacy policy for your blog. Check out the templates that we recommend below.

11. Email marketing provider

Email marketing is an essential piece of your blog! We highly recommend ConvertKit.

12. PO Box

This is for security purposes for your email marketing. You will have to provide an address on your emails so using a PO Box will prevent you from posting your home address for the world to see. 

13. Blogging coach

You may want to consider having someone there to guide you through this process and teach you everything you need to know to set you up for success.
