Blogging as a Business
SHOW NOTES: Episode 56
Today we are talking with you about creating a mindset in which you treat your blog like a business.
First and foremost, there could be multiple different reasons you may want to start a blog. Whether you are looking to blog as a hobby or replace your income, we want to give you some tools to think about right from the start and give you the information on what it would look like to build a business of blogging.
Here are some tools when it comes to setting up a business with your blog:
- Consult with somebody who is local to you that can understand the rules and laws in your state so you can create a business that is protected and you’re protecting yourself.
- Know where you’re spending your money. You’re going to have some expenses in starting your blog so you need to know what you’re spending vs. how much you’re earning.
- Open a P.O. Box for marketing purposes. You don’t want to give everybody your home address for safety reasons.
- Consider setting up a separate bank account for your business. This will keep your blog, income and expenses separated from your personal account.
- Consider trademarking to protect your business.
- Time blocking. Block off the time necessary to work on your blog and content creation. Batch your work and plan ahead. Be intentional with what you do with your time and focus on things you know will grow your business.
- Consider hiring a VA to help with the tasks that don’t bring you joy or that you aren’t capable of doing.
- Blogging ebbs and flows. Not everything always works out the way that we think that it’s going to. Use that information to fuel the next decision that you make in your business.
Give yourself permission to think of your blog as a business. There is a community out there waiting to connect with you, just as you are. You don’t need to be anybody else other than yourself and we hope that this year you’ll decide to do exactly that.
