Authentic Blogging in the AI Era: Leverage AI Without Losing Your Voice with Kinsey Soderberg
AI is still a hot topic in the blogging world. It has the potential to revolutionize how we create content, but some people are concerned about how it can lead to inauthentic blogs that sound robotic. In this episode of The Ultimate Blog Podcast, we got to chat with Kinsey Soderberg about how bloggers can use AI authentically to save time and creative energy, while maintaining their unique voice.
Meet Kinsey Soderberg
With her brand and podcast Authentic AI®, Kinsey helps down-to-earth entrepreneurs leverage AI tools in your business without wasting your time or sacrificing your authenticity.
She focuses on a human-first approach to AI that brings your brand to the forefront, and helps you make AI work for you (not the other way around).
She believes in using AI to get more done more quickly without sacrificing quality and find a little wiggle room to actually enjoy your life.
Learning to Leverage AI Without Fear
When AI tools like ChatGPT first hit the scene, Kinsey admits she was skeptical. She describes herself as initially being a “curmudgeon” about it. Like many of us, she thought that AI would strip content of its authenticity. However, after experimenting, she realized AI could actually be a powerful, time saving tool (if used correctly!).
She uses what she calls a “human-first” approach with AI to save time and creative energy. Instead of replacing human creativity, AI can help bloggers overcome writer’s block, generate new ideas, and even handle tedious backend tasks.
Leverage AI as a Time-Saving Tool
Kinsey shares that AI can streamline content creation without compromising quality. It can help you blast through daily stuck moments, whether that’s finishing a tricky sentence, brainstorming new blog topics, or summarizing lengthy transcripts. AI can be a personal assistant.
Kinsey also uses AI for tech troubleshooting. She wanted to add a countdown timer to her Squarespace sales page, and instead of digging through tech forums, she asked ChatGPT. It gave her the code in minutes! To be fair, it wasn’t correct the first time – but after going back and forth with it, she saved so much time and frustration that she would’ve been searching for the code by herself.
How to Leverage AI In Your Blogging Workflow
Kinsey suggests looking at two categories where AI can be most useful in a blogging business:
Established Systems & Workflows: Identify repetitive tasks that AI can assist with, like writing blog post outlines, drafting social media captions, or generating podcast show notes. For example, Kinsey has trained her AI assistant to format her podcast notes in her preferred style, right down to using star emojis instead of bullet points.
Daily Sticking Points: AI can help anytime you’re stuck in tasks or with writer’s block. Whether it’s rewording a difficult sentence or debugging website issues, just asking AI can save you time going down rabbit holes and creative energy.
Maintaining Your Authentic Voice
A major concern among bloggers is that AI-generated content might feel robotic. Kinsey is here to remind us that AI is just a tool – it doesn’t replace the human touch. The key is to thoroughly train AI to align with your unique brand voice.
To train AI, give it examples of your writing, tweak its outputs, and make sure it reflects your personality. Give it detailed information about your brand, voice, messaging, and offer suite.
For a quick start, she recommends opening a new chat and brain-dumping essential details about your brand, including:
- Who you are
- Who your ideal customers are
- Your mission and values
But for even better results, Kinsey shares her method: the Brand Blueprint, a tool that outlines five core brand strategies to guide AI responses: your brand identity, ideal customer, brand voice and writing style, your offer suite, and your messaging/brand storytelling.
Once you’ve created this document (which AI can even help you draft), you can upload it directly to ChatGPT. In just seconds, AI will absorb your brand’s personality and preferences, making future content creation smoother and more true to your brand voice.
AI as Your Assistant
While AI can be a powerful tool, it’s not perfect. AI-generated content should always be reviewed and tweaked to ensure accuracy and alignment with your brand. Think of AI as a virtual assistant rather than a replacement for your creativity.
It’s like hiring a high-level consultant… without the hefty price tag. It can help with strategy, marketing, and even brainstorming new content ideas. Just remember to always fact check the content it generates.
Attention Ladies: Don’t Be Afraid to Use AI
There have been studies done to show that men are two times more likely to use the top 50 AI tools than women. Additionally, AI tools have been proven to boost your productivity by up to 40%. That’s like working two extra days per week.
If women allow men to be the only ones to use AI tools, then men will be more likely to get the raises and promotions – and the gender income gap is going to drastically increase instead of decrease.
One more good reason women should use AI: AI tools are trained by the user. If women want to be represented in the future of AI, we need to be using it now. It’s not cutting corners – it’s using tools to boost your productivity!
