Episode 147: Blogging Trends You Need to Know with Jillian Leslie
In Episode 147, we got to welcome Jillian Leslie back to the podcast to talk about blogging trends you need to know about. She shared how she noticed when bloggers could solve real, specific problems that their audience has – and they do it with a personality, and approach their blog like a business – they can find success even in the most difficult times.
Then, Jillian says when you are thinking about your niche and what problem your blog solves, consider which of these your blogs does:
- Helps people make money
- Helps people save money
- Helps people save time
- Helps people move toward happiness
- Helps people move away from pain
- Helps raise peoples’ social status
These are the triggers that will turn your blog from a “nice to have” into a “need to have.”
Episode 113: Systems and Workflows to Create Magic in Your Blogging Business with Dolly DeLong
In Episode 113, Dolly DeLong shares how her systems and workflow business came about: She started asking herself what she was good at and what people were asking her to help with, and started to lean more into the systems and workflow side of her business.
It’s a great lesson for any blogger who’s wondering what to blog about. If you’re unsure what blogging niche to try, ask yourself:
- What are people asking you about?
- What are you the expert in your community on?
- What things cause people to naturally gravitate to you?
Episode 133: Bookkeeping for Bloggers with Ansley Beutler
In Episode 133, we sat down with Ansley Beutler, who shared an interesting perspective as both a CPA and a food blogger. Ansley explained how accounting didn’t fit into her long-term family goals and the lifestyle she wanted to live, so she pivoted to make her food blog her full-time job. She made that dream a reality, and her food blog became her full-time job in 2020.
Episode 124: Does Your Blogging Business Need a Reboot with Corry Frazier & Melissa Pepin
In Episode 124, we got to talk with Corry Frazier and Melissa Pepin. They explained how signing yourself up for entrepreneurship also means signing yourself up for a lifetime of self-development and content creation.
As an entrepreneur, you have to learn to market yourself and work on yourself, whether you’ve been in business for 2 minutes or 2 decades. Why? Because there’s always someone out there to compare yourself to. It won’t always be fun, but that’s why it’s a business and not a hobby!
Episode 116: Let’s Get Technical: SEO with Casey Markee
In Episode 116, we heard from Casey Markee who explained why you can still make a career as a food blogger, even though it’s never been more competitive than it is today.
Casey also shared technical SEO basics: it’s about improving your website to make it easier for search engines to find, understand, and crawl your content. The goal is to get rid of obstacles for Google – things like broken links or templates that Google doesn’t understand – to make it easier for Google to rank them higher.
If you’re a new blogger, here is Casey’ best advice for SEO at the beginning of your blogging journey (so you don’t have to go back and re-do it later): Remember that SEO is like eating an elephant, one bite at a time. Take it slowly and do things the right way.
